Day 209
I got going early today - we're going to have a week of temperatures in the 30's so I must get in the habit. Ralph and Tor had already set off on a Pedal Power ride - as they have bought a household membership, I've been joined as well but I would find it frustrating to have to go at others' pace and not be able to stop and sketch when I see The Subject. Today it was these pelicans which I spotted on the pontoon in the Yarralumla swimming bay, doing their morning ablutions. They keep their bodies conveniently still so once you've drawn the body, you can add the neck and head as it is at that moment. Charcoal (with a smudge of pink pastel added at home) is such fun to work with - very expressive and forgiving, I think. 17 km cycle

Pedal Power? I was a member of that group back in the seventies, when I was in my teens. There were only a dozen of us ... including a married man in his 30s who had the hots for me ... oh dear, that caused a kerfuffle with my folks. And with his wife. Hmmm ....
Great pelicans!
I love this drawing - wonderful rhythm of black and white shapes with the touches of pink. It would make a great repeat pattern for wrapping paper or fabric. I'm still amused about Hashi's man with his early mid-life crisis.
I love your pack of pelicans! They're so interesting and beautifully drawn. I envy all the interesting and lovely things so near to you. Blogger is being really mean this morning. I hope I'll be able to get it to let me post comments on your other recent posts. It took a long time to get this screen to appear and now the verification letters are missing!
Great Pelicans Alison, we have some that the fishermen feed locally but somehow I have never got their likeness very well yours look , well like pelicans.
What strange looking creatures they are. Good that they posed for you! The simple colours are effective too.
One time at Murray Bridge on our way to Adelaide with the kids we were eating fish and chips in a park and a pelican landed on the table and pinched the potato cakes!
