On the way to spend the afternoon at my parents, I walked the loop and stopped to sketch the wonderful pattern on this birch? tree. There seem to be three sorts of patterns - the 'eye' pattern (my favourite), the diamond pattern and the 'peeling paper' look. I don't know if they are the same species or not - apart from the pattern, they look the same. 6 km

There are patterns everywhere. Birch trees have lovely contrasts on the bark. Keep up the attention to detail! Have you tried drawing melaleukas - you could have a wild time drawing all of the layers of paper-like bark.

Good Eye! Don't know if the different varieties have different patterns.
This is cool. I've only ever seen the peeling paper type but I've always had a real fondness for birch trees. There's something really special about them!
Love the way you have done this, at first sight I wasnt sure what it was! How is your mother? Mine has had a fall and broken a bone in her ankle. Oh and no rain to speak of.
