Day 259
I cycled to the art school library and back before it got too hot, and stopped on my return to sketch these sunflowers in a pensioner's garden. The flower heads were the size of dinner plates. The king parrots or cockatoos will notice the seeds soon. What a feast. 12 km cycle

Lovely sunflowers Alison - you've caught the way they grow very well.

I always mean to plant sun flowers and always forget, such cheerful things. Lovey painting, incredible that they have become a big thing in the florist shops!

I've never grown sunflowers but the hugest ones I've ever seen were growing in front of a petrol station near Nyah!

We've had the power off for four hours - no fan, no cricket, no computer. Most of Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat down. Difficult for drivers - where the lights were not working. Caused by the bushfires up near Benalla.

I like the composition, the different sizes, positions and overlappings. They are cheerful flowers, yet somehow, I think, ridiculous. 'Yes sirree, I'm gonna be the tallest flower in the garden, I'm not gonna be two feet tall, I'm not gonna be three feet tall, nor four feet, nor five feet - I'm gonna be at least six feet - now see if you can beat that!'
I was never sure whether they really existed or were the product of my imagination.
