Day 64
While Tor and Ralph were at the doctor's, I stepped across the road to the Botanic Gardens. Unlike the Canberra Botanic Gardens, the Sydney gardens have trees and shrubs from various parts of the world. Top, are the flying foxes (wingspan about 50cm) having their morning snooze This roosting habit kills the trees. Below are a collection of palm trees, all without labels, unfortunately. They have wonderful textures on their barks.

You have that texture perfectly. Especially the one on the left.

These are great Alison. I hope you drew the Eye Hospital itself. All the restoration work, especially around the courtyard, and that weird fountain, it all looks so good. (hmmm, I've never thought to draw it myself!)
I love your flying foxes. Just perfectly captured them.

Okay, Alison! What is the difference in a "flying fox" and a bat? And why does their sleeping habits kill the trees?
The drawing is wonderful, the comments just created some "gotta knows" in my mind... Too bad they don't keep up on the signing on the trees.

No difference between a flying fox and a bat, I think but the Gardens called them flying foxes - I think they just knock off all the leaves with their endless comings and goings, until the branch dies.

Thanks for clearing up the mystery, thought there was a new animal out there I had missed (I am sure there is, just not this one!).
